Ah!! It looks like Vera Bradley threw up all over my luggage!! Under normal circumstances yes, I would definitely make more of an effort to at least Appear to not be some sort of fashion schizophrenic but my Mom and her best friend have an obsession with Vera Bradley which makes my collection of travel essentials well.. Look like this..
I do have to say though, that although I may not necessarily carry my pink Vera Bradley bag daily through the streets of New York.. I absolutely love to travel with it. The patterns are easily identifiable and the materials give me such a level of comfort when I am away from home.
My favorite thing is the document holder (yellow shown in front) which is just perfect for holding tickets, passport and important documents. Everything is completely washable and so soft! I'm curled up on the floor of the Chicago airport now waiting for my flight to Frankfurt, Germany using my bag as a pillow!

It is so hard to believe that in just a few days I will be in Ghana! I feel so incredibly excited and BLESSED. I will be working with the Ghana Health and Education Initiative's Girl's Empowerment Program:
Gender inequality has an impact on the health and education levels of both women and the community as a whole. In an effort to change practices that are harmful in this way, GHEI incorporates aspects of girls’ empowerment and gender inequality into all aspects of our work. In addition to these ongoing efforts, GHEI runs annual girls’ empowerment camps for groups of teenagers, led by groups of Serve and Learn volunteers. As well as informal teaching about adolescent sexual health issues, the camps involve life skills training on topics such as decision-making, self-confidence, and assertiveness.
GHEI's objective is to help build a sustainable future for the people of Ghana through community-based health and education projects. Their mission is to promote the advancement of health and education inf the Bibiani-Ankwaso-Bekwai District of Ghana by providing the resources and the necessary support to effect change.
As an active Theatre of the Oppressed facilitator, I am so incredibly excited to make art with these beautiful young women, give them the skills to empower themselves, and allowing myself the opportunity to learn and grow creatively. This will truly be a TRANSFORMATIVE experience and I invite you to check back often as I will try to post photos and thoughts as often as I can. Also, be sure to check out my Twitter: www.twitter.com/4freepeople (as it is updated with all the points on our itinerary).
After Africa, then it is off to Paris and Amsterdam before returning to New York. I can't wait!!

Santigold, the Roots, and thousands of other people are turning DC green this weekend. Are you?
Fact: Global warming is real.
Fact: Our dependence on dirty energy isn’t helping.
Fact: You can do something about it.
Today marks the first day of Power Shift ’09, a four-day gathering in Washington D.C. of people who want to bring change to the way America approaches its energy policy.
Unlike most big lobbying pushes, this one’s made up entirely of young people—10,000, to be precise. They’ll meet with legislators, demonstrate on Capitol Hill, and organize with one another, so that at the end of the event they can bring home a coherent game plan.
There will even be some eco-friendly partying happening. Santigold, The So So Glos, The Roots, and a slew of other bands will all be performing with the help of Green Owl, an environmentally sustainable record label.
The big question isn’t whether or not Power Shift will make a statement; rather, it’s whether or not you’ll be a part of it. We’ll make it easy for you: Just go! REBECCA WILLA DAVIS www.powershift09.org

It's not hard to look like a rock star when your axe is made by CHANEL.
Apparently the guitar runs for about 2800 British Pounds which equates to about $4600 .. Doesn't look like I'll be getting this bad boy any time soon.. But it doesn't hurt to dream... ;-)
Will-B and Kev Marcus, along with their manager Sam G, make up Black Violin, a group that seamlessly melds hip-hop beats and classic violin to produce a one-of-a-kind sound. After winning the Showtime At The Apollo Legend title in 2005, the duo performed with Alicia Keys, Aerosmith, The Eagles, Stevie Nicks, Linkin Park, 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Nas, Fabolous, Ciara, Fat Joe, and Lil Wayne.
Smh.. make me wanna dust off my old violin.. if only I stuck with it long enough to learn how to play something besides "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".. eh.. I think I'll leave it to the professionals.
Bodkin is proof that eco-friendly clothes don't have to be BOOOORING! Using all sustainable materials, including those that might normally be thrown into the recycling bin, Bodkin was the Inagural recipient of the Ecco Domani Sustainable Design Award earlier this year.
Community Activist Donald Faison Spreads the Word What it means to be green: "For me, to be green is to be aware that the planet that we live on is alive. Just as you respect any other life on the planet – be it a human, plant, or animal – you need to respect the earth in the same way. People need to be aware that this planet can die and that we may be the ones who kill it. Spread the word!"

This new Canon Powershot SD780 IS takes beautiful HD photos and videos as well.. And it is soooo tiny! (The image in this photo is the actual size.) You can easily stick it in your back pocket unnoticed.. I'm told you could also sneak it into concerts, but I haven't tried that yet.. shhh!
Carol's Daughter - Bring in the Moisture While in Ghana, it is going to be especially important to keep my skin moisturized in the heat. This "Bring In The Moisture" set is absolutely perfect. It soothes and refreshes your skin while leaving your face radiant and fresh.. not super oily. Carol's Daughter - Love Butter Honey, Cinnamon and Brown Sugar.. sounds delicious. Not only does it make your skin baby soft, the shine is to die for and the scent... sugary sweetness.
After an unfortunate experience, having my beloved phone disappear into thin air on a Buttercup Bake Shop run.. I decided to go all in and do an early upgrade.
The newest iPhone features a built in Compass feature which not only tells you in which direction you're going, but transfigures the Map app. to match your direction. It also allows you to see Satellite photos in real time. I sound like the Apple Genius guy right? But take it from the girl who has been lost abroad more times then I would like to mention, this feature is a God Send. This past January, while on a study abroad trip in Puerto Rico, I successfully navigated an expedition from the center of town back to our hotel with my iPhone. (even though it wasn't exactly my idea to WALK in the first place.. it only took us a couple hours) The compass is just an added bonus and it saves you from having to walk several blocks before realizing you are going in the wrong direction. I speak from experience.
My obsession with the iPhone is the ability to download from 1000s of Apps. Again, not to sound like a salesman or some sort of Apple Geek (I am.. sadly) but the fact that I can customize my phone with apps. of my choosing gives me such a sense of power.. (and I get slightly melodramatic) My apps. tell me anything from the cycle of the moon to the cycle of that not so friendly female friend that comes by to say hello once a month :-( While traveling, I'm focusing on those applications that can help me keep my life organized and connected.
