Black Butterfly (by Sounds of Blackness) was the first song I ever danced to. I wore a black leotard and frilly black skirt and my mama had me perform it EVERYWHERE, at church.. the supermarket.. and I even had the opportunity to perform it for Coretta Scott King on a visit she made to Cincinnati, OH.
It is a song about taking flight..
Black Butterfly, you can do most anything your heart desires. Freedom comes with understanding who you are. It's time to reclaim your place among the stars. Spread your wings and FLY.
Keep your PRIDE. You can't be another color butterfly. So when you shine let EVERYBODY see your light.
Awakening, a genius has been asleep to long.. a people with a beauty rich and strong, a heritage that rates second to none.
Original. your qualities don't change them to fit in.. now that your on top.. just keep RISING.............................
Experience new life. Be born again.

Thinking about all of the beautiful moments that I shared working with the girls in Ghana really brings a new perspective on this song. Every girl should have a chance to see the world. Every girl deserves quality education. So many little girls in Ghana (and all across the globe) are not allowed these opportunities because education is not affordable to them. That is why I am in the process of setting up a scholarship program to support these girls in going to secondary-school and achieving all of their dreams. Every little girl deserves the chance to fly...
